Greening the building sector

The RE-GREEN project - "Towards Regional policies GREEN buildings", led by INTELI, was approved by the European Commission last December 16.

Developed in partnership with nine European organizations, the project aims to improve regional development policies oriented to the promotion of "green regions".

"Approximately 40% of the final energy consumption occurs in buildings," says Catarina Selada (Cities Area Coordinator at INTELI). Despite the urgent need to invest in reducing energy consumption and the greenhouse gases emissions, we must go beyond these measures. "We must promote, within the Green Economy paradigm, economic development, job creation and social inclusion, as postulated by OECD, the United Nations and the European Commission," she stresses.

With a special focus on greening the building sector through the enhancement of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies, the initiative seeks to reverse the current situation with the building sector as one of the biggest greenhouse gases emitters.
