Catarina Selada, INTELI's director of Cities and Territories, was invited as expert in the field of the Smart Cities' new paradigm.
INTELI has developed a Smart Cities Index involving 25 Portuguese cities. A huge analysis based in five dimensions (sustainability; connectivity; governance; social innovation; and entrepreneurship). Catarina presented the team work goals empathizing that in a smart city, technology must solve people's problems.

INTELI presented at the meeting of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities (RECI) the Portuguese Smart Cities Index, which is worked with 25 municipalities that are part of the Living Lab for the sustainable development of cities (RENER).

The meeting of RECI, held in Burgos, aimed to share experiences, expand knowledge and cementing Iberian partnerships.

Iñigo de la Serna, the Mayor of Santander who chairs the Spanish network, stressed the importance of sharing best practices and successful projects in progress, especially in the areas of transparency and social innovation, known as huge pillars of a new paradigm for economic development.

The MBA Solvay Business School in Brussels invited CEIIA and INTELI to develop a project with students in the "International Business Field Project” course.

Developing new business models and internationalization strategies for the MOBI.E project was the core activity undertaken by INTELI /CEIIA team and three students with different nationalities: Brazil, India and France.

The results of this initiative that ran from February to June 2012 were very positive for both sides and marked the beginning of a development process of the internationalization strategy of this recognized success case. Creating an intelligent platform for mobility, using sustainable energy, MOBI.E represents innovation in this business area.

INTELI / CEIIA and the Solvay Business School experience is also a success praxis in the relationship between one of the best Belgian universities in "Business Development" area and Portuguese companies.

This issue follows the international conference “Smart Cities for Sustainable Growth”, organized by INTELI in partnership with FLAD and the Ecologic Institute, last May, in Lisbon.

In addition to the event reporting, you can find information about the “Smart Cities 2020 Index”, a project coordinated by INTELI, as well as articles from some of the invited experts.

Santander, in turn, appears in the section devoted to case studies, in which it is emphasized the Spanish city large investment to become a smart city.
